Many texts like this, including some we're reviewing that have not yet been published, and slated for late 2009, cover policy, politics, global statistical inference, and multiple regressions of trend analysis for global supply and demand, but NONE come close to balancing the macro and micro in such fine fashion as ESE. This is a WORKING text, not just for policy, but for implementation. Don't let the ups and downs of barrel prices, or the emotion of global warming vs. cooling make you think this text is dated. The models are solid, sound, state of the art, and relevant in a timeless way-- changing the parameters will not change the underlying value of the models, contribution, and need for this text. During my time as an undergrad at Cornell University, one of my favorite classes has been a renewable energy course taught by one of the authors, Lou Albright, with Energy Systems Engineering as the primary textbook. Apart from being clear, well-written, and well-organized, the book does a great job of blending background information, justification for technologies, discussion of practical issues, and quantitative analysis of systems in a manageable and engaging way. Working through it was very empowering and it played a big role in getting me excited about energy. It's also very accessible as a reference for specific projects. I would highly recommend it to other students interested in learning how to work with and analyze energy systems.

... I don't even... just... wow.

This is just... I don't even know what to say. I could go over all the wrong things in this book, but that would take too long. For those of you who read Daughter of Darkness, you know how that book ended and how it should lead into this one. I'll just discuss my biggest beefs here.

One thing that bothers me is how so willingly Lorelei abandoned Buddy in the last book, but in here she was willing to stand up to her father for Liam. Thank God we have a normal name for the main male for once, Buddy, Ryder, and Brayden were just horrible. There is vampire drama, of course, but the book winds up in a cheesy way, with her parents (and sister) going to her wedding.

But then her father demands, that in exchange for Lorelei's freedom from the vampire world, she has to give up her firstborn child if it is a daughter. Yes, I am not kidding you. If you've read the real VCA's books, you should be no stranger incest (at least fictional) but she handled it well, giving a reasonable circumstance for it to happen. Not so here. It was just disgusting that he wanted a little not-yet-born baby girl who would eventually grow up to be one of his wives and bear him more girls to bring him victims... er, food. HIS OWN GRANDDAUGHTER, who is supposed to replace his daughter (who is also his granddaughter) as his wife/breeder. Ew. HIS OWN FREAKING UNBORN GRAND/GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER. Jeez, the baby's not here and he's making demands for it! Sounds like Rumpelstiltskin to me... (And not the sexy Robert Carlyle type!)

I'm not sure what the heck it is with this whole incest thing. In this series, it is pushed way too far. Sergio (and apparently other male vampires) have sex/breed with their daughters, granddaughters, and so on, casting aside one woman for her daughter, lather, rinse, repeat.

And Sergio wants to convince Lorelei that she is special despite this? Yeah... NO.

Also, apparently getting pregnant with a human means that Lorelei loses her vampirism. Or something like that, Neiderman just rushes this so it is sloppily done, so its not really explained why suddenly Lorelei can live a normal life (she literally becomes mortal/human, as her father tells her she will age like a human and so on) In fact, the 'rules' for vampires are not well-established here. (Authors like Anne Rice, Christopher Pike, Laurel Hamilton, PC Cast, etc, designate laws/rules for their vampires regarding their supernatural abilities/limitations) But again, Neiderman is sloppy so his vampires are not well-defined as a race other than a few details he hastily threw in. So just how Lorelei can stop being a vampire to become mortal is not explained.

Then after her baby is born (a boy) she sees her father again and has one of the biggest character 180's that I have ever seen. Shattering events can change a person's perspective, sure. But in here it was not well-founded, the story had a slow buildup and then a rushed ending, like the last few books before it.

And no wonder, as with the number of books he has released in the last 30 years, he spends less than 4 months on average per book. If he spent more time on making these books better, he would have noticed that he recycles the same phrases over and over... in this book he uses the word 'impish' to describe smiles, and it is not the only oft-used word/phrase he trots out. Blah. He also uses a LOT of similes/metaphors. Now, these are a valuable tool to writers to describe things, but in here he uses so many, and drags them out often to the point of silliness.

Long story short, very lackluster book and rather gimmicky. Maybe, MAYBE two stars if Neiderman wrote this under his own name, but a definite zero as a VCA book.

It's sad and disgusting that the publishers keep putting blurbs on the covers of these new books claiming that VCA herself wrote these. That is blatantly false advertising/lies. These new books do not even begin to compare to the sheer brilliance of the real VCA's work or even her notes.

I am only about 35% through the book and it just doesn't grab me like the other V. C. Andrews books did. I'm not into blood sucking vampires or anything like that. I liked the original books of the past. Any of the other books I just couldn't put them down and it only took me a few days to read, but this one and the Daughter of Darkness not so much. Unfortunately I b

ought it so I will finish it but not my cup of tea. Sorry!!!!!!I have every book by V. C. Andrews and have read them all, These last two are nothing like them.

WTF?

OMG. You can't possibly be serious. Mr. Neiderman did a terrible job with this book. You knew that the second Liam started changing, he and Loreli would get married. Same with when Loreli saw Ava for a split second. You knew that Ava would be back. There was nothing to cause an suspense. This is coming from someone who normally loves Mr. Neiderman's work under V.C. Andrews name.

V.C. Andrews- I am so sorry that this book was published with your name on it. I know you could have done better.

sweet love - must read!!

absolutely a MUST READ!! i loved SAM and CLAIRE!! Claire is from a wealthy family, yet not pretentious in any way... she sees people for who they are, not what they have. Unlike her mother and sister. Claire's father is better than the two, yet still has a hard time getting past material lifestyle as well... but means well.
Sam comes from a family that was not wealthy, but had love and worked together.. his father passed away, and when Sam was old enough he helped his mother by getting a part time job as he went to school.. He had not gone to college yet, he was working as a mechanic helping his mother...
Claire's VW bug broke down and Sam happened to be passing by and stopped to help her, so since her selfish sister would not come get her and mother wouldn't pick up her phone... what other choice did she have? Sam and Claire talked all the way to the shop and when they dropped her car off, he also took her home and asked her out on a date..
there was an immediate connection between the two.. almost like soulmates as they called it..
there was an accident and Sam and Claire were both hurt and in the hospital and many surgeries... both had memory loss and did not remember eachother..
I will stop there because I won't ruin the book for anyone.... it gets sooo good!!! Sam and Claire's paths do cross again, yet they do not no one another... so why would they even stop to say, hello???
wonderful book!!! i do wish there is another book, because we are left with several unanswered ?'s it just seemed rushed at the end. so, makes me think maybe Sandi Lynn has another book in the makings???

this story pulled on all my heartstrings. Wow... it gives you a glimpse of what real love...umm scratch that, love. isn't a strong enough word, SOUL MATE truly is. Sandi Lynn once again hit it out the park with this book. definitely worth a second read. can't wait for the next book.

Remembering You is a book I could not put down. I sat and read it in one afternoon and I cannot wait for more.

This is a story about true love and fate and how no matter what, you can't change your destiny.

Claire is a down to earth 17 year old who comes from a rich, high society family that looks down their noses at people who are not like them. Claire is nothing like her family and can't stand them. She was miserable until one day and a broken down car later changed her whole life.

Sam comes from a working-class single-parent home. He is 19 years old and works as an auto mechanic to help his mother. His world changes when he comes across a beautiful girl stranded at the side of the road.

After towing Claire's car to the garage, Claire and Sam were inseparable. She was not going to let her family tear them apart. She runs away with Sam and a tragedy strikes.

Be prepared for lots of tears and an aching heart. Remember you can't change destiny. You must read this book to see if destiny will tear them apart or bring them back together again.

Although not well known outside his native Mexico, Casasola (1874-1938) was one of the "early masters of photo-journalism," writes journalist and novelist Pete Hamill in his stirring and informative introduction to this unprecedented and invaluable collection of Casasola's powerful images of a country in violent transition. Little is known about Casasola himself--portrayed in one photograph hard at work in his darkroom with a pistol on his hip--except that he started out as a reporter, then, around 1900, switched from words to images just in time to masterfully document two cataclysmic events, the horrifically bloody Mexican Revolution and the world-altering Industrial Revolution. Casasola recorded it all, photographing rebel leaders Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata, federal troops, rebel soldiers and the soldaderas (courageous women who cared for and fought beside them), and the dead. Possessed of a preternatural sense of the telling moment, Casasola also captured scenes sharply emblematic of the dawn of modernity on the busy streets of postwar Mexico City. Includes Photographs of Agust�n V�ctor Casasola - An Overlooked Master

Not as many photos as one would hope, but all the work of Agust�n V�ctor Casasola (who documented the Revolution) is something to admire. Unfortunately, it seems the Mexican government that holds nearly all his work, is for some reason unwilling to license or release most of the images in any form.

An excellent way to understand contemporary Mexican history

Contemporary Mexican history is definetely shaped by the events (Mexican Revolution and its impact on Mexican society) that took place in the early 20th century. Casasola could be considered the father of Mexican photojournalism. Along with many other photographers that followed his steps or worked under his wings, Agustin Victor Casasola left an invaluable visual legacy of Mexican history and the participants that took place on it (from the radical painter to the workers on the streets). I recommend this book for anyone interested on Mexican history.
