... I don't even... just... wow.

This is just... I don't even know what to say. I could go over all the wrong things in this book, but that would take too long. For those of you who read Daughter of Darkness, you know how that book ended and how it should lead into this one. I'll just discuss my biggest beefs here.
One thing that bothers me is how so willingly Lorelei abandoned Buddy in the last book, but in here she was willing to stand up to her father for Liam. Thank God we have a normal name for the main male for once, Buddy, Ryder, and Brayden were just horrible. There is vampire drama, of course, but the book winds up in a cheesy way, with her parents (and sister) going to her wedding.
But then her father demands, that in exchange for Lorelei's freedom from the vampire world, she has to give up her firstborn child if it is a daughter. Yes, I am not kidding you. If you've read the real VCA's books, you should be no stranger incest (at least fictional) but she handled it well, giving a reasonable circumstance for it to happen. Not so here. It was just disgusting that he wanted a little not-yet-born baby girl who would eventually grow up to be one of his wives and bear him more girls to bring him victims... er, food. HIS OWN GRANDDAUGHTER, who is supposed to replace his daughter (who is also his granddaughter) as his wife/breeder. Ew. HIS OWN FREAKING UNBORN GRAND/GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER. Jeez, the baby's not here and he's making demands for it! Sounds like Rumpelstiltskin to me... (And not the sexy Robert Carlyle type!)
I'm not sure what the heck it is with this whole incest thing. In this series, it is pushed way too far. Sergio (and apparently other male vampires) have sex/breed with their daughters, granddaughters, and so on, casting aside one woman for her daughter, lather, rinse, repeat.
And Sergio wants to convince Lorelei that she is special despite this? Yeah... NO.
Also, apparently getting pregnant with a human means that Lorelei loses her vampirism. Or something like that, Neiderman just rushes this so it is sloppily done, so its not really explained why suddenly Lorelei can live a normal life (she literally becomes mortal/human, as her father tells her she will age like a human and so on) In fact, the 'rules' for vampires are not well-established here. (Authors like Anne Rice, Christopher Pike, Laurel Hamilton, PC Cast, etc, designate laws/rules for their vampires regarding their supernatural abilities/limitations) But again, Neiderman is sloppy so his vampires are not well-defined as a race other than a few details he hastily threw in. So just how Lorelei can stop being a vampire to become mortal is not explained.
Then after her baby is born (a boy) she sees her father again and has one of the biggest character 180's that I have ever seen. Shattering events can change a person's perspective, sure. But in here it was not well-founded, the story had a slow buildup and then a rushed ending, like the last few books before it.
And no wonder, as with the number of books he has released in the last 30 years, he spends less than 4 months on average per book. If he spent more time on making these books better, he would have noticed that he recycles the same phrases over and over... in this book he uses the word 'impish' to describe smiles, and it is not the only oft-used word/phrase he trots out. Blah. He also uses a LOT of similes/metaphors. Now, these are a valuable tool to writers to describe things, but in here he uses so many, and drags them out often to the point of silliness.
Long story short, very lackluster book and rather gimmicky. Maybe, MAYBE two stars if Neiderman wrote this under his own name, but a definite zero as a VCA book.
It's sad and disgusting that the publishers keep putting blurbs on the covers of these new books claiming that VCA herself wrote these. That is blatantly false advertising/lies. These new books do not even begin to compare to the sheer brilliance of the real VCA's work or even her notes.

I am only about 35% through the book and it just doesn't grab me like the other V. C. Andrews books did. I'm not into blood sucking vampires or anything like that. I liked the original books of the past. Any of the other books I just couldn't put them down and it only took me a few days to read, but this one and the Daughter of Darkness not so much. Unfortunately I b
ought it so I will finish it but not my cup of tea. Sorry!!!!!!I have every book by V. C. Andrews and have read them all, These last two are nothing like them.

WTF?

OMG. You can't possibly be serious. Mr. Neiderman did a terrible job with this book. You knew that the second Liam started changing, he and Loreli would get married. Same with when Loreli saw Ava for a split second. You knew that Ava would be back. There was nothing to cause an suspense. This is coming from someone who normally loves Mr. Neiderman's work under V.C. Andrews name.
V.C. Andrews- I am so sorry that this book was published with your name on it. I know you could have done better.
