Great Math Fun!

AofPS offers a unique style of teaching math. The fun and engaging comic book style stories and the amazing characters are a real hit with my 6 year old. The practice pages are far from the boring worksheets that most curriculum offer. They are more puzzle based and critical thinking related and engage the child into learning in a fun and active way. Instead of just rote problems to see if the child "learned" the information in the reading, they check skills through application of concepts which is a much better check of the child's grasp of the material.

Good books for this age group

I got these as summertime work for my 8 year old daughter to prep her for school next year. The format is fun and she likes the characters. The big drawback is the guide book is separate from the practice book and its not easy for an 8 year old to figure out what practice sections go with the guide book sections. Its confusing to her and, frankly, its not all that straightforward for me either as there is not 1:1 parity between the guidebook and the practice sections. It would be much easier if it were condensed to a single book and the lessons were intermingled with the practice stuff rather than bouncing back and forth.

Beautiful illustrations and very clear explanations

Beautiful illustrations and very clear explanations. I also like how they explain the basics, for example you read comics. The level seems to be right for 1st-3rd grade; my kindergartener is ready for the math, but not quite at the right reading level, so we are waiting. He checks on the book every week though, looks at pictures, and deciphers bits and pieces of the text -- he is already excited to dive in :).
